The Company
Founded in 2017 by Mari Paula, the company creates projects in contemporary dance, performance, training and management. Known for its Ibero-American co-productions, it has produced more than 15 works in seven years, praised for integrating body, word, sound and light. Led by a migrant woman artist, the company has grown exponentially and performed at festivals across Europe, Africa and the Americas.
Mari Paula
Mari Paula (Brazil, 1984) is a dancer and choreographer trained in performing arts and cultural management, exploring themes such as migration and womanhood through contemporary dance. Founder of her own company and of Las Vivas, she has won the Funarte Award and shown her work at festivals across the Americas, Europe and Africa, while also working to strengthen the Ibero-American choreographic sector.
Awards
Mari Paula has received the Funarte Klauss Vianna National Dance Award (Brazil’s Ministry of Culture) for La Lucha (2014) and Retrópica (2015), the Funarte Myriam Muniz and Novelas Curitibanas awards for Iracema 236ml (2014), and a mention as best director and best show at the Troféu Gralha Azul Awards (2013). Her projects have been supported by Iberescena, Fundación Santander Creativa and NAVE (Chile).

Our Methodology.
Our artistic and pedagogical practice does not seek to impose a single pattern of movement, but rather to foster a space of ongoing experimentation and inquiry. We understand stage creation and training as a living process built on three fundamental pillars:

Cultural Anthropophagy and Appropriation
Based on Brazilian Modernism, this methodology proposes “eating, digesting and appropriating a cultural action.” We invite the devouring of external stimuli, stories and contexts in order to transform them through the identity of each body, turning it into a hybrid territory of artistic digestion.

The Concept of Alteridade (Otherness)
We actively explore the condition of being “the other.” We use contemporary dance and performance to investigate how the body collides with and is affected by its surroundings, light, sound and other bodies, decentring the “self” to enrich collective creation.

Hybridization of Languages
Movement engages in a horizontal dialogue with the word, visual installation, sensory stimuli and architectural space. We foster embodied “think-do” processes where the physical and the intellectual merge to expand the aesthetic perception of both artists and audience.
