Synopsis

Las Tres Hermanas – a rocambolesque melodrama in four chapters offers a different way out for Olga, Masha and Irina. The adaptation moves Chekhov’s characters to a contemporary Ibero-American context, where their relationships with power, desire and identity are transformed.

The piece leaves behind the traditional reading of the sisters as figures subject to a fate marked by social structures and proposes characters who make decisions and hold positions of power. This staged reading combines the irreverence of Queer Art, Almodóvar’s aesthetics and Brazilian Tropicalism, building a melodrama shaped by humour, excess and transformation.

A transgressive dramaturgy in Spanish

Las tres hermanas was born from the encounter between Mari Paula and Leonarda Glück around a contemporary rereading of Chekhov’s classic. The adaptation moves its protagonists to the Ibero-American social and cultural scene, transforming their relationship with desire, identity and power.

The project was presented in Madrid in 2018, at DT Espacio Escénico, as a staged reading within the Pride programme. It brought Glück’s dramaturgy to Spanish audiences and was the first presentation of this adaptation in Spanish. The work is part of Leonarda Glück’s A Perfodrama, published in 2016, and belongs to a stage writing shaped by the body, identity and trans experience.
