Bammm
BAMMM was born from an invitation by Balé Cidade de Campina Grande to choreographer Mari Paula to develop a creation with the company. Together with artist Alexandra Mabes, Mari Paula built a work for five performers that starts from the idea of the Big Bang to imagine the origin and expansion of the universe from the perspective of a Brazilian body. The piece incorporates popular expressions of Paraíba culture, along with rhythms, gestures and movement patterns from Brazilian culture, building a cosmology shaped by the body, memory and territory.

Synopsis
Bammm starts from the idea of the Big Bang to imagine the origin and expansion of the universe from the perspective of a Brazilian body.
Bodies made of stardust meet, collide, scatter and come together again to form new constellations. The choreography draws on rhythms, gestures, pulses and movement patterns rooted in Brazilian dance traditions, bringing to the stage a cosmology built from the body, memory and territory.
Between the intimate and the cosmic, Bammm creates a universe in constant transformation, where movement becomes matter and bodies become forces able to create new worlds.
A cosmology of encounters
The project grew out of an encounter between Mari Paula, Alexandra Mabes and the performers of Balé Cidade de Campina Grande, within a cross-residency programme promoted by the Ibero-American Dance Platform (PID), with the participation of Chile’s Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, Centro NAVE and FUNARTE (Brazil).
The process brings different bodies, territories and knowledge into relation, incorporating expressions of Paraíba popular culture and exploring how they can enter into dialogue with contemporary choreographic creation. The result is a space of exchange in which memories, gestures and knowledge meet, mix and transform one another.
Bammm was developed as a co-production between Mari Paula – Dance & Performance and Balé Cidade de Campina Grande, with the support of IBERESCENA 2021 and the Government of Cantabria.
