Fronterizas Invisible

Synopsis

In Spanish, the prefix in- denotes negation or deprivation, but it also means “inside” or “within”. Fronterizas Invisible plays with this double meaning to suggest that denying the visible is, at the same time, an invitation to explore other ways of looking. Because darkness is not the absence of perception, but a different way of seeing.

Hacia una Danza Invisible is a practice-based research by iara Solano Arana in which she works with choreographers and dancers to turn their dance pieces into new invisible, sensory versions.

The project offers dance experiences created especially for blind and visually impaired people, but also open to anyone who wants to experience dance on equal terms, through the rest of their senses.

It is not about creating an audio description of the pieces, but about returning to their essence, to their most primal form, creating a new work as a total experience in a new format.

Fronterizas Invisible is the first adaptation developed within this research, made in collaboration with Mari Paula from her original work Fronterizas.

Towards an invisible dance

Hacia una Danza Invisible is a research into other ways of perceiving and experiencing dance. The project shifts the focus away from the visual to work with sound, words, light, the body and the rest of the senses as creative materials.

It understands accessibility as a creative possibility and not only as a later adaptation. Each invisible version thus seeks to build its own stage experience, one that can be shared by blind and visually impaired people and by diverse audiences.
